How to avoid cryptocurrency scams
Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. If you send cryptocurrency to a third party, you cannot reverse or stop the payment. Be sure to:
- Verify the legitimacy of third-party services and merchants before sending cryptocurrency.
- Only send cryptocurrency to entities you trust.
Tips on recognizing cryptocurrency scams:
Scams are on the rise: Scammers might pose as authority figures such as law enforcement, government officials, or utility companies and demand immediate payment in cryptocurrency.
Beware of urgency: If you are being asked to make an urgent payment in cryptocurrency to someone you don’t know, don’t trust, or recently met, please question the situation because you are likely being scammed.
Threat or danger to loved ones: Scammers may use the threat of danger to family members and/or loved ones as potential leverage to pressure you into sending them cryptocurrency.
Never transact with, or on behalf of, someone you don’t know. You should only transact at the kiosk to add value to your own wallet. Third-party transfers at the kiosk are prohibited in any event.
